Dear reader,
Who turned the lights out?
Well, it's our first day back since the clocks changed and all of a sudden it's practically evening by the time we knock off. We knew it was coming, of course, yet somehow it still manages to catch us by surprise.
And with it comes a different feel to Stream Street. The shop windows are beginning to glow a little earlier, and everyone's electricity bill has just gone up a notch as we all reach for the light switch.
Still, with Halloween arriving on Saturday, the timing is rather appropriate.
The Florist is making the most of the season with some striking black roses, while the Balloon Shop is full of Halloween balloons, with spooky shapes floating about and spilling out onto the Street, looking particularly at home in the darker evenings.
Although, it must be said, everyone we've met along the Street today seems to have that same slightly bewildered look. The sort that says, without needing to say anything at all, well, winter's coming.
And there's not much we can do about it, except perhaps put another layer on and hope we don't catch a cold.
No great drama. No mysterious happenings. Just the clocks changing, the evenings drawing in and everyone getting used to putting the heating on again.
Happy Halloween, everyone.
Yours sincerely,
